Mark Johnson is nearing the 30th anniversary of serving on the Cass Rural Water Users District Board of Directors. He joined the Board in 1995 and later became the Cass Rural Water representative on the Lake Agassiz Water Authority (LAWA).
Over the years, Mark has witnessed the Red River Valley Water Supply Project (RRVWSP) move from a drought mitigation idea closer to reality since construction began in 2020. The coordination between LAWA and Garrison Diversion Conservancy District, as well as the end users of the RRVWSP, is something that impresses Mark.
“As a member of LAWA, I wish more citizens were aware of how many towns, cities and water districts are involved in planning the Red River Valley Water Supply Project,” he says. “I’m pleased to work with such knowledgeable people.”
Cass Rural Water Users District customers will benefit from the project because the District purchases water from the City of Fargo which is one of the large users of the RRVWSP. “This project will give us a good backup supply of water,” says Mark.
When Mark isn’t serving on the Cass Rural Water Users District or LAWA Boards, he enjoys spending time with family. He and his wife, Joanne, live in Buffalo. They are retired from farming, which allows them to spend more time with their daughter and granddaughter whenever possible.
